The Walk

Blencathra (Hallsfell Top) - 868 metres

I had quite a few fells planned on this walk, but it's not all about bagging summits, the views are paramount in my humble opinion.
This was to be one of those days.
We set off from the parking area behind the Blencathra Centre for an eagerly awaited walk to the summit of this famous mountain.
The idea was to summit Blencathra, Mungrisdale Common and Bannerdale Crags and I particularly would be looking forward to viewing Sharp Edge and Scales Tarn from the summit. The only problem was, the cloud had decided to descend to around the 600mt area and it was pretty dense as my summit photo shows. In fact it was so gloomy we walked right past the summit trig point, (which is a bronze plate fixed to the rock) and were heading briefly down towards Scales Fell before I realised the error.
We decided enough was enough and headed back down promising to return another day (hopefully clearer) and try again.
