The Mell Fells

The Walk

21/08/2015

2 Wainwright's completed - 59 in total
Little Mell Fell - 505 metres
Great Mell Fell - 537 metres

The last day of this visit to the Lakes, with the weather not looking great (yes a typical August day), it would be a low level walk today.
I decided to knock the Mell Fells off the list, not everybody's cup of tea, and not sure why the great man put them in his wonderful books, but Wainwright's they are so they had to be climbed.
Anyway, we parked at The Hause for the quick up and down for Little Mell Fell and then moved on to Brown Rigg farm.
Parking in a little lane nearly opposite the farm for the slightly harder climb up to Great Mell Fell, which is a little more interesting, with the trees bent over at 90 degrees and a nice route on short grass through the bracken. We had a rain shower as well just to brighten the mood even more but overall a day on the fells is a good day whatever you are up to.

One of the bent over pine trees, this phenomenon caused by exposure to the prevailing wind.
